Step 2 — Glass type selection. Step 3 — Edge finish. We determine the edge treatment based on how the edge will be exposed and how the glass will be used. Step 4 — Thickness. We specify the glass thickness based on the span between support points and the load the surface needs to carry. This is a professional judgment call: glass that is too thin for its span will flex under load, and glass under repeated flex stress fails without much warning.
